Prometric Registers Record-Setting Number for India's New National Post-Graduate Medical Exam

Over Next Two Months, 300,000 in India Will Test for Entry to Prestigious Medical and Business Administration Programs
BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwire - Oct 5, 2012) - Prometric has set a new standard in the testing industry, successfully registering more than 41,000 students in the opening 24 hours that candidates could apply for India's first National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) exam. The successful transition from a paper-based test to a computer-based examination has expanded access to thousands of aspiring medical students in India, demonstrating how technology-enabled testing can be utilized to increase access to college education in emerging markets.
By the time the NEET-PG testing window closes, Prometric will have delivered more than 300,000 exams on behalf of the National Board of Examination (NBE) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), which administers the Common Admission Test, best known as the IIM CAT. The NEET-PG exam replaces all state medical entrance exams for M.S. and M.D. courses, streamlining and standardizing the medical exam process in India.
"Gaining entrance to medical school has a profound influence on a person's life and their career. We understand that, and we embrace it in our work every day," said Michael Brannick, President and CEO of Prometric. "We are proud to partner with the National Board of Examination and help to advance medical education in this way. In India alone, more than a quarter of a million test takers will pass through Prometric doors by the end of the year as they pursue their dreams to become future business leaders and medical practitioners."
As of press time, in 36 hours, Prometric registered more than 57,000 NEET-PG test takers. These applicants have reserved seats for the Nov. 23 to Dec. 6, 2012, testing period. Candidates will be vying for approximately 20,000 available admissions to medical colleges in India.
The CAT, conducted between Oct. 11 and Nov. 6, is used in the selection process for admissions to India's prestigious business administration programs.
